This is the last of three recordings made at the fourth Juan-les-Pins Festival. The rhythm section, after playing together for only two months, is amazingly fluid and cohesive, and Davis' playing is very spirited on all three of the Antibes recordings.

The performance master for this session in the RTF/INA archives is on 1/2" Kodak tape (item #LVAA352): the first reel contains André Francis' introduction, "If I Were a Bell," and "So What"; the second contains "Stella by Starlight" and the beginning of "Walkin'" (the tape ends in the middle of Carter's solo); the third contains the conclusion of "Walkin'" (beginning with Hancock's solo) and ends with "The Theme" and some stage chatter.

I am grateful to Robert Elliott for supplying me with the recordings from the ORTF archives.
